BIOGRAPHY

Jordan R. Tucker was born in 1992 in Midland, Texas to Clairissa Tucker, a teacher and freelance violist, and Robert Tucker, a music administrator and band director. He was raised in Brownwood, Texas and attended school in Bangs where he received state-recognized honors in music and journalism. Mr. Tucker began composing and arranging at the age of 8, and received his first professional commission from the Texas Baptist All-State Choir and Band at the age of 17.

In 2011 Mr. Tucker began his undergraduate studies at Baylor University under renowned composer Scott McAllister. In addition to his composition studies, Mr. Tucker participated in the horn choir, the marching band, the wind ensemble, several jazz combos, the men’s choir, and was a principal member of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra when it won the American Prize for three consecutive years. Throughout his undergraduate experience, he received commissions from large ensembles such as the Baylor Men’s Choir, and student ensembles such as That Good Ol’ Baylor Sound, which won the Collegiate Horn Quartet Competition at the 2015 International Horn Symposium with his arrangement of “How Great Thou Art”. In 2013, Mr. Tucker won the Baylor Wind Ensemble Composition Contest with his piece “Lament and Proclamation”, which was premiered by the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. J. Eric Wilson.

Following his success as an undergraduate, Mr. Tucker chose to pursue further studies at Baylor in 2015, during which he served as the arranger-in-residence for Baylor’s award-winning a cappella group VirtuOSO and as a graduate assistant for Baylor’s theory and composition departments. As a graduate student, Mr. Tucker’s music was featured on the televised concert-special A Baylor Christmas, and the Waco Symphony’s By George! concert.

Mr. Tucker has composed and arranged over 50 pieces of music, and his arrangements have been performed internationally in Dubai and Sydney, Australia. His music has been performed by the Waco Symphony Orchestra, the Longview Symphony Orchestra, the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, the Baylor Wind Ensemble, the University of Kansas Men’s Glee Club, the Baylor Men’s Choir, the Golden Wave Marching Band, the Howard Payne University Symphonic Band, the Howard Payne University Band Leadership Camp Wind Ensemble, the Hardin-Simmons University Symphonic Band, and Baylor’s VirtuOSO. Mr. Tucker currently serves as a Professor of Music at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, TX where he teaches music theory, ear-training, piano, brass, and composition. Mr. Tucker is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, ASCAP, and Pi Kappa Lambda – the National Music Honor Society.
