Description
Commissioned in the Spring of 2016 for the exceptionally talented horn player Lindsay Marie Smith, Sonnet for Horn and Piano is a heavily romantically-influenced work, finding its roots in the song cycles of Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Barber. Though structured similarly to the classic sonnets of William Shakespeare, the frequently shifting tonal center creates a modern spin on the piece’s romantic outlook. Displaying the beautiful lyrical tone of the horn, and a conversational accompaniment from the piano, this piece represents the beauty of the past through the eyes of a modern romantic. Please enjoy Sonnet for Horn and Piano.
